Don’t you feel like the phrase “you are powerful” is everywhere lately? I don’t know if it’s trending or if I see it a lot because of the social media accounts I follow, but it feels like many people are using those three little words together these days. My question is: do we really believe that phrase?
Sometimes life makes us doubt it, big time. How can we believe that we are truly powerful when we don’t have control over, well, pretty much anything in life? Even when we try our best to believe that we create our own circumstances, we find out that we can’t control many things. When I talk to people and tell them that we create our own reality, the answer I usually get is: “No, we don’t. It’s all actually a matter of luck. You have lucky people and people who aren’t as fortunate, and that’s it.”
For many years, I was under that same impression, which is understandable. After all, when we live in societies with so many systems in place (bureaucracy, maybe a dictatorial government, injustice, etc.), how could I (or any of us) believe it’s possible to fight against the world as it is? When our reality is composed of monsters that seem undefeatable, how can we believe we’re powerful? I get it. It’s not easy to change our way of thinking while we’re living inside the storm.
The truth is that our external circumstances will change only when we redefine and reshape our interior. Believe me, when we let our unlimited potential out, we become truly powerful. What I mean by ‘redefine and reshape our interior’ is that we need to work on removing the blinders the majority of us are wearing that keep us from seeing how powerful we are. The reason I know that the majority of people don’t believe they have unlimited power is because when I ask them a simple question: “Do you think you can change the world with one action?” the answer I always get is an emphatic “no.” Most people tell me that the individuals who have already changed the world are special people.
Do you doubt that you are powerful to the extent of changing the world with one action? Do you think only special people can actually do something to change the world, and the rest of us are merely ‘normal’ souls without superpowers? Well, maybe the person who decided to eat a bat last year had the same belief, yet here we all are, wearing masks around the globe. It took one person and one decision to start this pandemic. Yes, I know it took more than one person to spread it like crazy, but that doesn’t negate the fact that one person had the power to start it. I also know several hypotheses are out there regarding the transmission of the virus from animals to humans, but my point here isn’t to discuss the science behind this virus. All I want you to get is that each of us has the same capacity to change the world. One decision we make can escalate to huge proportions in a positive or negative way. Of course, I believe that the person who decided to eat the bat (or whatever animal they got from that market in China) didn’t do it with the intention of changing the world to this extent, but that only demonstrates that we have power within us even when we don’t know it.
I keep reading and hearing people complaining about everything regarding the pandemic. Please don’t take this wrong—I know it’s been a difficult year. I know we have lost friends and family because of it. I also know many people’s financial situations have become difficult. I know this pandemic sucks, overall. But as always, we have two options: 1) we can keep focusing on the bad, or 2) we can work a little harder and find the good within it. We can keep blaming China, the bats, the government, or whoever we want. We can spend hours, days, weeks, months, and years blaming the pandemic for all our current problems. Or, we can let it go and start working on taking off the blinders to recognize the unlimited power we all have within us. Take the pandemic as a proof of the powerful effect only one person can have with one little action.
Now, can you imagine where we could get if we used our unlimited power to its fullest potential? If you knew you could change the world, what would you do? If you knew your actions could influence people and change your reality, wouldn’t you do things to bring you peace, joy, love, health, financial abundance, and freedom? The world around us would change at the same pace we changed the world inside us. All the changes we want to see will only happen if we take action and start working on ourselves.
I know many of you make New Year’s resolutions and are ready to let 2021 take over and be a better year. If you already have a list of all the things you would like to accomplish, starting today, perfect! But guess what? This year will only be as good as the effort you make for it to be a good one. The improvement in circumstances you are waiting for will be so much better if you take action and start working towards the changes you want to see.
I want you to start this year by reading and BELIEVING that… YOU ARE POWERFUL!
Happy New Year my friends! Make 2021 your best year so far, and then keep doing the same for all the following years!
Love,
Irene
